Privacy policy

FirstHajj has no accounts, no ads and no tracking across apps. Almost everything you enter stays on your phone. The app sends anonymous usage counts and crash reports, which you can turn off, and anything you choose to send us as feedback. We never sell or share your information.

What stays on your phone

Your settings, trip type and dates, home country, flights, savings goal, checklists (including ones you made), bookmarks, reading position, reading plan, saved duas, guide progress, Tawaf, Sa'i and Jamarat counts, tasbih, meeting points, saved gate, places you marked as visited, recent searches and downloaded recitations are stored only on your phone. So is your last known location, so prayer times work without internet, and the email you last used for feedback, so you don't type it again. So is your safety card, which can hold your hotel, blood group, an emergency contact and medical notes. We cannot see any of it. Deleting the app deletes it.

Location

With your permission, the app uses your location on the phone to work out prayer times, the Qibla direction, nearby places, your distance to the Haram and whether you are inside a Hajj site, and to save meeting points. Your location is never sent to us, and coordinates are removed from crash reports before they leave the phone. To show your city's name, the phone's own map service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) may look up your coordinates. When you ask for directions or share a meeting point, the location goes only to the maps app or person you pick. You can turn location off in your phone's settings; the app then uses Makkah as a default.

Notifications

Prayer, adhan, Duha and reading reminders are scheduled on your phone. No server sends them and we receive nothing.

Usage counts

To learn which features help pilgrims most, the app sends PostHog, our analytics service, a note each time a screen is opened (for example the Qibla screen, or which guide or place), when a feature is used (such as finishing a Tawaf count, playing or downloading a recitation, or changing a setting), and when the app is opened, installed or updated. Each note has the app version, the phone model, the system version, the language and time zone, and a random number made on your phone so we can count people without knowing who they are. It never contains your name, your location, your safety card or anything you typed. We have set PostHog not to work out where you are from your IP address, not to build a profile of you and not to record your screen. You can turn this off in Settings > Share usage and crash reports.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or a screen fails to load, it sends a crash report to PostHog so we can fix the problem. A report contains the error, the screens opened just before it, the app version, the phone model and the system version. It does not contain your name, your location, your safety card or anything you typed. The same switch, Settings > Share usage and crash reports, turns this off.

Feedback you send

When you send feedback from Help & Feedback, the app sends PostHog what you wrote, the type you picked, your email, your trip type, the language and the app version, along with the same phone details and random number as a usage note. If you have no connection it is kept on your phone and sent later. If usage sharing is switched off, nothing is sent by the app: your email app opens with the message instead, and it reaches us as a normal email. We use your email only to reply to you.

Where data is kept and for how long

PostHog stores usage counts, crash reports and feedback on its servers in the European Union. We keep them only as long as they help us improve the app and answer you, then delete them. Feedback emails sent from your mail app are kept in our support inbox until the conversation is finished.

Outside services the app connects to

Quran recitations and their verse timings come from mp3quran.net, which sees a normal web request from your phone (such as your IP address). Maps are shown by Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android, under their own privacy policies. If content updates are switched on, the app checks our content server for new guides and places; that request contains no personal information. Now and then the app may ask you to rate it, using the App Store or Google Play's own review window; we don't see who rated or what they wrote there. Sharing a dua, hadith or meeting point uses your phone's share menu and goes only where you send it. Links to Saudi apps, embassies, WhatsApp and official websites open in your browser or the app they belong to.

Your choices

You can turn off usage counts and crash reports at any time in Settings. You can turn off location and notifications in your phone's settings. To see or delete feedback you sent us, write to the address below from the same email and we will do it. Usage counts are not linked to you, so we cannot pick out yours; turning sharing off stops them, and deleting the app removes the random number.

What we never do

No accounts or sign-in. No advertising. No tracking across apps or websites. No selling or sharing of personal information.

Children

FirstHajj is a general-audience app. It does not ask for anyone's age and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
