Masjid Addas, Ta'if

Ta'ifMosque

Traditionally marks the orchard where the Prophet ﷺ rested after the people of Ta'if drove him out, and where Addas brought him grapes.

History and Seerah

In the tenth year of prophethood the Prophet ﷺ went to Ta'if to invite the tribe of Thaqif. Their leaders refused him, and he later told Aisha it was the hardest day he met from his people (Bukhari 3231). The books of Sirah add that he sheltered in an orchard of Utbah and Shaybah, sons of Rabi'ah, whose servant Addas, a Christian from Nineveh, brought him grapes and became Muslim. The exact spot of the orchard is a local tradition, not a certain one.

Visitor tips

It sits beside al-Mathnah, near the Qantara (al-Madhoun) mosque. Several small mosques nearby carry similar stories; tour guides note that not all of them are established.
